book review (4)

Green pushed hard, dislodging Ruxs from his back. He looked over his shoulder, and did a double-take at the clear look of lust shining in those light green eyes. Jesus Christ. He jammed the key into the lock and hurried inside. He let Ruxs stumble his way in on his own. Tossing the keys in the dish on the table, he moved further into the loft, flicking on the lights as he went. He was in the kitchen pulling out the carton of orange juice when he heard the light switch flick again, putting him back into darkness. The street lights shone through the large windows, casting shadows all over the place. He turned the carton up to his mouth, figuring that Ruxs had hit the light by habit and was already in his room, probably face down on his bed.

Green shoved the juice back in the fridge and closed the door. He turned around and ran into a brick wall. Ruxs’ chest. He was standing directly behind him, quieter than a mouse in a room full of cats.

“Fuck! Ruxs, what the hell are you doing?” Green barked. Looking directly into Ruxs’ heavy-lidded eyes.

Ruxs didn’t say a word. He didn’t smile. He didn’t laugh it off or say it was an accident. He just stared him down.

“What. Are. You. Doing?” Green said with more irritation in his voice.

Ruxs took a couple of steps forward and Green instinctually moved back. The refrigerator was at his back and Ruxs’ arms slowly came up and caged him in. Their faces were only inches apart. Damn he was acting so weird. But Green was going to let him play out his little game so they could go to bed.

“Something on your mind,” Green said through clenched teeth.

“Actually, yeah.” Ruxs finally grinned and Green got the confirmation that it was just Ruxs being his usual asshole-ish self. “Why do you think so many men are gay?”

Green resisted the urge to put Ruxs on his ass. “Are you shittin’ me right now?”

“No. Really. I was just wondering that.”

“Oh. You were just wondering that?” Green gave him a bullshit look.

“Yeah. I mean we work around all these big motherfuckers that are head-over-heels in love with other men. God and Day. Syn and Furi. Ro and Johnson. All these badass men. Queer as a three-dollar bill. Highly respected.” Ruxs leaned in closer and whispered softly, “In fucking love. Why is that? What’s so great about it?”

Green gritted his teeth. “When you see God tomorrow, why don’t you ask him? I’m sure he’d love to give you the answer. Just make sure I’m there. I’d hate to miss that.”

“Why are you mocking me?” Ruxs growled low and Green stood up straighter.

“I’m not mocking you. But you’re being ridiculous and I’m tired. Now move.” Green knocked Ruxs’ hands down and shoved him back with his own chest. They were the same height, same build. Evenly matched. Ruxs dug his heels in and stopped them. Ruxs put his heavy hands on Green’s shoulders and begin to squeeze them. Green sighed heavily, wondering when this madness was going to be over.

“You’re so damn wound up. You want a massage?” Ruxs asked nonchalantly like he was offering Green a piece of gum.

Weirdly enough, massages were pretty common. Ruxs rubbed Green’s shoulders all the time. Sometimes he had to rub cramps out of Ruxs’ calves after they worked out. After a good sparring match, Ruxs usually ended up working the kinks out of Green’s lower back. But neither one of them were in any pain right now. Except Ruxs being an annoying pain in his ass. He was exhausted and they had to be to work early.

“No. I don’t want a damn massage, Ruxs. It’s after fuckin’ midnight, get your damn hands off me.” Green knocked those very talented hands off his shoulders and maneuvered around his partner. Thank God, this time Ruxs let him go.

synopsis 2

Detectives Mark Ruxsberg and Chris Green are very good at their jobs. Being the enforcers for God and Day’s notorious Atlanta PD Narcotics Task Force causes the crazy duo to get into more trouble than they can often get out of. The pair never misses out on an opportunity to drive their Lieutenants crazy with their dangerous, reckless, and costly stunts, landing them in the hot seat in front God… often.

Ruxs and Green love their jobs and they don’t mind the very demanding schedule that leaves them little time for socializing or dating. It was fine with them, they enjoyed hanging out with each other anyway.

However, most of the men in their close circle of friends and colleagues are pairing off and settling down. God has Day, Ro has Johnson, and their Sergeant Syn has Furious.

For the past several years, Ruxs has only sought out the advice and company of one person, his partner and best friend Green, and vice versa. Both of these alpha males are presumed straight, but neither can deny the heat that’s building in their once ‘just friends’ relationship.

book review 8

So yes the gangs all back in all their hot glory. I mean everyone too, and don’t forget about Curtis and Genesis. This book though primarily focuses on the two enforcers of God and Day’s APD Task Force, Ruxs and Green. (Though each of the guys in the previous books play roles and make appearances frequently). These two are the men who love to get their hands dirty, and have no problem costing the department money for their destruction if it means catching their perp. They are closer than most brothers, basically living out of each others pockets. They have always been touchy feely with one another but it never meant anything or so they thought about the other. Unfortunately a night spent on God and Day’s couch might have changed Ruxs views on certain things.

Being around gay manly couples at work never affected Ruxs until he started looking at Green in a different light and reevauating reenacting his life. Reading Ruxs inner monologues trying to tell himself what he’s feeling isn’t so, is hilarious. I found myself laughing periodically at his responses in his head. As tough as Ruxs is on the outside, he really does want love. He struggles with the emotions he is starting to feel and wont talk to Green about it. Green notices something is wrong but doesn’t understand why Mark wont talk to him.

Things start to change when the boys help Curtis study for his math test. Yes, the scrawny kid who God busted for trying to rob a gas station has become a big part in the whole teams life. They watch out for him, give him work and make sure he is ok. Because of the guys, Curtis decides he wants to become a lawyer and help youth. He has become a straight A honor Student. Throughout the book you see the relationship Curtis has built with all the men but especially Ruxs and Green. They basically have become his surrogate fathers and the team brothers and father figures as well. The way ALL the men take care of Curtis is so heartwarming, you never would have thought from the first book he would play such a big role in all of the teams life. Especially now that they are the only family he has left. They make it clear to everyone concerned Curtis is their’s (I can’t tell you what that means because that’s a spoiler and you know how I feel about them, so you’ll just have to read about what event takes place and how the team comes together and truly becomes Curtis’s family).

As usual after a stressful day one of the guys would massage the other, little did we know until now, Green isn’t as straight as we thought. As Green proceeds to try to rid Ruxs of his stress it only seems to tense him more. The whole scene is so comical. I was dying laughing as I read it because neither knows about the other one, Ruxs is realizing he wants Green and has the biggest hard on ever and is about to blow from just a massage. Green can’t figure out why Ruxs is still tense after thirty minutes, so he tells him to turn over. OMG there were tears streaming down my face from laughing. Not only could I picture the scene because AE described it so well, but Ruxs thoughts were the icing on the cake. Somehow Ruxs was able to get Green to leave just in time before he made a HUGE mess.

After a little misunderstanding the truth came out from both men, and when they came together it was explosive. AE wrote such an amazing scene – there was fire, tenderness and of course comedy with their inner thoughts. They both shared something no one else had experienced, and solidified the nature of the relationship only making them stronger in both work and love. It was an exactly perfect scene for these two extremely dominate men. Let me tell you a secret… you will be surprised at who ultimately loves to be the

As usual life doesn’t always go smoothly, but when the chips get tough this is one team, you don’t want to mess with. God and Day have created not only a team but a family, and Ruxs and Green are glad to be apart of it. Inside this book AE still manages to bring out a surprise couple and maybe even a new member of the team, but you’ll have to read to find out those juicy details. Trust me on this you want to know….

Overall Impression:

4.5 * – I loved it – Once again AE does it. She created another amazing book for this series. This book is filled with comedy, hot steamy scenes, tender moments and times of sorrow and crisis. She manages to pull it all together to create an amazing book you don’t want to miss. All the players are there and you get to see the team solid in the roles they have come to play, characters grow up and become strong men, relationships from the past are shown to have been strongly mended. Within this book the meaning of a true family is established.  You don’t have to be blood related to hold that title, and these characters prove that. This book once again proves why AE Via is one of my favorite authors and her books will always hold a place in my library.

Overview of “Nothing Special” book #1

This is the book that starts it off, The story of Leonidis Day and Cashel Godfrey or “Cash and God. Now some of you may be racking your brains saying…Leonidis Day sounds so familiar, well you are correct.  He played a cameo and is the longtime best friend to the famous chef Prescott Vaugh from “Can You See Me”. That book takes place during months before this book.

From the moment Cash and Day met in the meeting room on they’re first day with the APD, something’s clicked and now five years later their partnership has never been stronger. This book takes you through the struggles these two men go through to become the amazing leaders they are in HCT.

They deal with fight, heartache, insecurities and finally a love that is so deep nothing can break it. God proves that when a bust goes south and Cash’s life is on the line. Cash gives God everything he’s ever wanted in his life, and God’s natural nature is what Cash craves. They are truly two halves to a whole.

You also meet: Curtis as a then struggling 15yr old, Genesis as an angry to start 17 yr old, Ronowski, Johnson, Vicki and the moms. This book sets the stage for the books to come. Don’t worry though even though in my opinion this book deals with more emotional issues, it has it’s fair share of steamy melt the ink off the page scenes as well as finding out a few of our dear officers have quite a kinky side.

If you are new to AE Via, I definitely recommend you read the books in order. The background information on each character truly is necessary to understand the family bond of the task force in HCT. This book ranks a high 4*’s in my book. I’ll admit I have reread the whole series more than once.

***I also suggest you go ahead and read “Can You See Me”, not only is it a great book but you will completely understand Gods constant comments regarding how Day learned to cook.***

Overview of “Embracing Syn” book #2

This book starts a few years after God and Days promotion and the start of the special narcotics task for the APD. They are the baddest of the bad and basically operate under their own set of rules, all at the request of the Mayor. They handle the most dangerous busts dealing with multi-million dollar deals and the worst criminals. A position opens up in the unit and Day hand picks the man you get introduced to, and is made the third in command of the task force Sydney otherwise known as Syn.

Syn is a tough as nails cop who can keep up with God and Day on any given Day. This is the book where you see the task force coming together to make it what it is by the time HCT comes out.

One of their newest cases involves a porn site being targeted with murders, at the center of the mess is Furious or Furi. Furi has led a rough life and hides a very dark secret that unfortunately has caught up with him.

In the meantime Syn can’t seem to get Furi out of his mind, even after finding out what he does for a living. When things start coming to close to Furi, Syn realises why he can’t let Furi alone and vows to protect him. After Furi’s realizes Syn is the real deal he finally lets him in. In the process gaining the man of his dreams.

Syn will stop at nothing to make sure Furi is safe and like the family the task force is, they take Furi under their wings and protect him. Furi has to learn how to not only trust, but to love again and realize his heart already knows what his brain is being slow to catch up to.

This is a fast paced novel with all your favorite characters from the first book in all their kinky badass glory. There is action, murder mystery, tons of twists and surprises, steamy scenes, and another couple finds the love they both want but don’t think they deserve. It’s an amazing tale that will keep you on your toes and keep you coming back for more. Another 4* ranking on this book. To me the series gets better with every new book that comes out.

Q: How did you begin writing? Did you intend to become an author, or do you have a specific reason or reasons for writing each book?

A:  I never thought Id be a writer. My bachelors is in Sociology but I went to a Fine Arts college. I took a lot of literature courses as electives. I’ve always loved reading, its my escapism. After I wrote a short story for one of my fictional writing courses, I discovered that I loved to write even more. The decision to become an author didn’t happen overnight, it took a ton of internal persuasion. It wasnt until after I released Blue Moon and people didnt hate it, that I began to think yeah, I might want to do more of this.

Q: What draws you to the genre you write?

A:I read my first M/M romance nine years ago, and I’ve been hooked to the genre ever since. The passion is so raw and gritty. Theres a different level of intensity and power in gay romance, than in M/F. Last year, I started putting my own thoughts and characters on paper, just loving where the scenes took me…like my very own hot world when I’m writing.

Q: When you start a book, do you already have the whole story in your head or is it built progressively? Do your characters ever take over your writing and make the story go somewhere you didn’t originally have in mind?

A:  A thought or character will come to me at any and all times. I dont have much of a process. I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type of girl. I will think of a character or characters and sit down and just start typing, or if I can’t type at the time, Ill write it in my journal which is always with me. I don’t use an outline, or map out a setting and conflict, etc. I just write. Because yes, the story is going to go its own way and I follow.

Q: Any writing rituals?

A:  My characters begin to talk and that’s all it takes, I start typing what they say and the story just builds. I can write anywhere at any time. It doesn’t even have to be in a quiet environment with a glass of red wine beside me (laughing), all I need is two working hands and a word processor.

Q: Best line you ever wrote?

A:  If you don’t pull your head out of your ass and claim Prescott Vaughan like he wants, I wont stop until I’ve fucked the sexy strawberry ten ways to Sunday and theres not a single trace of your existence left in his mind, because with or without you, he needs love, and I was the one there last night to lick his sweet tears when you walked away.

Q: Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

A:  Only one. The QVC shopping channel has to be playing on the television in the background.

Q: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?

A: Promotions. Not fun. It’s very tedious. Hopefully someday Ill be able to hire a full time promotions team.

Q: Is there a certain type of scene that’s harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?

A:  My book Blue Moon II was based on military Navy Seals. It had a lot of military jargon, action, fight scenes, war scenes, etc. It took a lot of research. More than Ive had to do for any book. When writing professions, you really need to know what you’re talking about or it kills the character.

Q: Just as your books inspire authors, what authors have inspired you to write?

A:  Goodness. I’ve been reading MM so long, it’s just not enough room to tell you who my favorites are. I was introduced to the genre from a friend that couldn’t say enough about the hotness of MM. I started with reading the late great E.Lynn Harris. I then went out immediately for more, moving on to a couple of phenomenal writers  Eden Cole, G.A Hauser and Sandrine Gasq-Dion. These three females heavily influenced me and made me feel that I could do this too.

My all-time favorites that are auto-buy are, the three I just named and: Abigail Roux; Kindle Alexander; River James; Mercy Celeste; NR Walker; Eden Cole

I’ll stop there but trust me, there are so many more.

Q: What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?

A:  My Family. I have very four really good kids. Their ages range from 6 to 19. With the exception of my 6 year old, they love what I do. My son was suspended from school last year for knocking out a bully for teasing a boy who was gay. Although they are not allowed to read my books, they’re proud to tell anyone that I write gay romance. That makes me feel really good.

Q: Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

A: I read most all my reviews and comments on my work. I take at least 99% of them very seriously. Some people are just mean and want to say spiteful or hateful things those I ignore. But, it would be foolish of me as a writer to not adhere to honest criticism. It could make me a better writer. It’s a rule not to respond to reviewers, and so I don’t. Sometimes I really want to though.

If a writer ever gets a bad review or even a hateful one, don’t respond. Theres no pleasing everyone, there will always be one, or two, or three, whatever, that claim it wasnt good work. Just keep writing. Because there were hundreds that loved it.

Q: Would you ever want one of your books to be made into a movie? If so, which one?

A: Oh definitely. I think all writers just might want that. I would choose Nothing Special. God and Day.

Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about your book, but nobody has? Write it out here, then answer it.

**:  How do you choose the names for your characters, and do you have a model, actor, real person in mind when you write a character?

A: All my characters are made up in my head. None are based off a real live person, nor do they look like anyone. It’s why it’s so hard to do my book covers. My characters are so unique in my head. Their names, their faces, there’s no one out there like them and I feel it makes me closer to them.

Q: Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writer or have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

A:  To authors – I always say that if you want to be an author, go for it. Dont over think it, or base what you should do, off of what other authors are doing. You do what you CAN do, write what makes you happy, and write what brings out the best parts of you. Dont be easily discouraged. My first book  Blue Moon, was rejected by three different publishers before it was contracted. If you want to be a writer, you must have an Im-going-to-succeed spirit. Otherwise, at the first rejection letter, discouragement will be your hindrance. If you’re an author  even an unpublished one  know that you are, and do the damn thing. *winking*

To Readers – Thank you so much for supporting my work, reading and loving my alpha men as much as I love writing them. I hope you’ll continue to follow me on the social medias or through me website. Theres going to be a lot more hot male on male action coming !

Q: Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?

A:  Don’t give up. It’s not going to be as easy as it may seem, but it will happen.

Q: List three books you have recently read and would recommend.

A: My favorite book that I reread a lot:  G.A Hausers “The Wedding Planner”

Recently Read:  Varian Krylov  “Bad Things”

Recently Read:  Charlie Cochets  “Hell and High Water” Series

Q: Are there any current projects and can you share a little of your current work with us is about?

A:  Yes. The next project is rest. I will release the next book in January.

Q: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

A:  Continued to run my bankruptcy business. Before I started writing full-time, I filled bankruptcies for people who couldn’t afford lawyers. It was nice and fulfilling. But, I love writing more.

Q: Favorite foods/Colors/Music?

A: Food – Lobster

Color – Brown

Music – All Old School Pop, Rock, and R&B

Q: Twilight or Harry Potter and why?

A: Uhhh. Twilight. Why two words, Team Jacob
